Larry Dossey, MD, doctor, author, researcher, and visionary, passed away peacefully in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on August 25, 2026.

I first met Larry at the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine conference in 2016, where he had given a fascinating talk on the convergence of nonlocal consciousness and medicine. Afterward, I stood in line to get his autograph on his latest book. When I reached the desk, I told him I was a professional medical intuitive. He looked me in the eye and said, “Then you are a very dangerous woman!” and we shared a laugh.

I was delighted to interview Larry for my book on medical intuition and especially honored to receive his endorsement for the book cover. Our meeting was a lively discussion on how intuitive nonlocal skills can and should be integrated into conventional healthcare and medical education—a perspective we both emphatically shared. Larry explained how he experienced intuition in his career and the deep value that intuitive insights bring. He also expressed frustration with the slow movement of the mainstream healthcare community to accept the decades of research and evidence that he and colleagues have published.

Larry was dedicated to exploring the intersection of science and spirituality. His development of complementary/alternative medicine and its integration with conventional medicine, as well as his clear understanding of how the importance of consciousness and spirituality affects health and well-being, opened countless minds to new possibilities. His seminal book, Reinventing Medicine, should be required reading for every medical student.

Larry published over 150 articles and thirteen books as well as co-founding and executive editing two important peer-reviewed journals: Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine and Explore: The Journal of Science and Healing. He received many prestigious national and international awards, including the AIHM Visionary Award, the Alyse and Elmer Green Award for innovation, and the Bravewell Collaborative Pioneer of Integrative Medicine award.

I am grateful to have connected with this incredible pioneer. He will be greatly missed.
